Prodigious Manchester United striker Federico Macheda, 17, is the latest Premier League footballer to be subject to a burglary, as balaclava-clad thugs robbed his home yesterday morning.

The Italian teenager was home during the ordeal, and is believed to have lost a £20,000 watch, while a friend of the fledgling Red Devil was struck on the head with a bottle and later required hospital treatment.
According to the Mirror, the police suspect that the attack related to an incident at Circle Bar in Manchester earlier in the evening, as sources intimate there had been a "heated" exchange to conclude the evening.

Macheda and his friend hailed a taxi to take them to the young footballer's home, six miles away in Sale, while two men followed later. An emergency call was made during the early hours of the morning, at 3:40am, yet police refuse to disclose if the robbers were armed with knives.

"Enquiries are continuing into the incident," a police spokesperson is reported to have told the Mirror.
Macheda, like the rest of the Manchester United squad who have returned for pre season preparations, will be flying to the far east this week for a number of potentially lucrative friendly fixtures.
